Well, tomorrow marks the 50th birthday for Malaysia.
(Nothing big, really.)
Except I just witness a long stretch of cars, with their emergency headlights on, honking non-stop, parading the whole campus. Yeap People, it's a public holiday tomorrow, and TANG ANG KHIAN is still in the campus. Yip Yip Hurray!
It's seems to be a pretty big deal for the people here in Malaysia, having to celebrate the 50th birthday.. The STARS have this 50Years 'Malaysiaku Gemilangku' logo on their frontpage everyday for a few months now. There are huge bantings and banners hung everywhere, stating "50th years-something-something". Big deal, you see? Even big companies came up with gimmicks in conjunction with the 50th year, such as giving out 50 Yellow ViVas, RM50, etc..
So, the 50 number is the current 'ong' number.
"We've came a long way", said the older generation.
The younger ones beg to differ.
Certain things are still being handled barbaric-ly(barbarian style!). Democratic holds an entire different meaning here in the country. There are still racial issues even though non of the problems were stated in the papers, but there are still everywhere. (Even in UTP!).
Crime rates are still as high as ever, especially down-south!
And you said we came a long way?
Oh no, we are going back to the past, dear. Back to the time, before civilization.
One thing that is left to be happy about is the food. Then again, the price of food has increased, decreasing the taste of them.
Merdeka is not really something that I am looking forward to actually.
1) Tests, Assignments, Quizes lined up next week.
2) A sick granddad in the hospital.
3) Home-sick.
4) Deprived of sleep and rest and entertainment.
5) Lack of time.
By the way, my granddad was admitted into the hospital for the 2nd time now. He fell down and the doctor diagnosed him that his kidney is malfunctioned. He's constantly in anxiety, causing the whole family to be worried about him. Dad called me last night, told me that he was going to spend a night with my granddad, but such act is only going to cause him deprieved of rest too. Dad's a heart patient, and he's also busy with work. And now, having to take care of my sick granddad.
Sigh. I only wished my brother doesn't add in the burden.
Happy Merdeka, everyone.
(If it means anything to you..)
